American’s need maps…

I came across this on James Fee’s blog. Miss South Carolina is asked why she thinks it is that recent polls have shown a fifth of americans can’t locate the US on a world map. You just have to see her answer to believe it…

Marks for geographical (and just general) awareness: 0/10

Marks for asinine smiling: 8/10

Marks for managing to end on building a future for all our children irrespective of the question: 11/10

How Stonehenge Might Have Been Built

Anomaly Television » Blog Archive » How Stonehenge Might Have Been Built

An interesting approach to building Stonehenge from a Michigan construction worker called Wally T. Wallington. I have to say, the idea of rocking the huge stones back and forth seems an awful lot more plausible than eg using hot air balloons to lift the stones into place!

Schmap!

Some of my photos are being used in the Schmap online guidebooks! Seems like a nice way of building a guidebook; use Flickr for the photos and WCities for the descriptive information and present it in an easy to use web map. Perhaps a bit of a cheeky way of avoiding paying for professional photos from one point of view but I quite like the messages telling me I’ve had a photo selected, warms the cockles of my heart and all that, plus the Schmap guides do give full credit and a link back to my Flickr account; I’m just glad people want to use my photos, that’s what they’re there for!

3D Laser Scanning for Heritage: Advice and guidance to users on laser scanning in archaeology and architecture

The final version of the guidance for laser scanning in archaeology is available from Heritage3D.org. I thought this was due out ages ago but good things, as they say… The Stonehenge Laser Scanning project gets a link but no case studies from Archaeoptics, unfortunately, imo; their projects, as presented at the BGS conference on laser scanning and at CAAUK have been by far some of the most challenging and interesting of any carried out to date (see their featured projects here).
